Agile 2008 - Slicing the community
I was chatting (Beer in hand) with a friend at XTC the other day. They were expressing a concern that the Agile 2008 conference structure of many stages might fracture the Agile Community into many functional sub groups when in actual fact the real value is when all the different disciplines are in the room.
Firstly, my position, I agree that the conference was getting too big. I like the idea of co locating smaller conferences, and open reviews. To summarise, I think Rachel and the Agile 2008 committee are doing a sterling job.
The difference between the current proposal and my original idea was that I suggested splitting the conference based on your appetite to risk / where you are on the Agile adoption curve.
i.e. The mini conferences would be
1. New to Agile. Need to know what is established Agile / Conference is a training course.
2. More advanced Agile Stuff. What is cutting edge.
3. Really weird stuff.
4. Business stuff. Let those with a business focus talk amongst themselves. Those who are interested can join in
5. Leaders. Love 'em all dearly.
Obviously people self select. We would get a mixture of disciplines in each mini-conference.
I'll dig out my original e:mail.
