Concrete Vs Abstract

I have been reflecting on the time that we developed a flexible model but the users entered data in such a way that it restricted the use of the system. See here for the story.

Perhaps the problem was as much to do with the fact that we had developed an abstract model and had not explained it to the business manager in concrete terms. Urm there might be something to that.

It did not help that we had an antagonist relationship with the business manager because we were changing his model. First we should have developed a trusted relationship and then collaborated on developing the model rather than prepare it in isolation.
