Another difference between the UK and Germany was the approach to security. Like America, the German security insisted that travellers put their shoes through the X-Ray machine. UK security did not. Perhaps the UK Security think it is too improper to suggest such a thing or perhaps they are a bit more relaxed about security.
As an aside, humans are incredibly ingenious and can turn many things into dangerous weapons. For example, a bottle can be smashed and turned into a nasty weapon. Bottles are still sold in airports past security.
The only way to remove the security risk is to prevent everyone from travelling.
It is a misguided policy to attempt to increase security to "fight" terrorism. The only way to remove terrorism is to remove the conditions of injustice that cause terrorism.
